This blog post isn’t to put you off larger venues, but rather to explain potential differences between the two and then it’s for you to decide which venue suits your event best.

Personal atmosphere

This will be totally dependent on the venue, as larger venues can and will have personal atmosphere, but smaller venues do tend to excel in this domain and it does come down to size. When everything is smaller, it’s a lot easier to build more personal relationships with guests; regulars or not, if there is only ever one event taking place at any one time then naturally staff will get to know you a little better than if there were multiple events happening at the same time.

Smaller venues may also naturally have a more personal atmosphere as they are more compact. Rather than being spread out, event space is all in one place and in close proximity to bedrooms – if they have them at all!

Less overwhelming logistics

Have you ever booked a venue for an event and then been told that you can’t access the room until X time and you need to eat your meal at a set time and then you need to clear down by X time? Usually this will be because the venue are working your event logistics around another event that they have. Larger venues could have up to 20 events all taking place at the same time, so in order to ensure your event runs smoothly may need to put some restrictions in place. When you book a smaller venue, they may only have your event in-house therefore there’s more flexibility for your event.

Take us at The Jazz Cafe for example. We only have the one event space, therefore your event will be the only event that we have, therefore you have our undivided attention! Our staff members will only have your event to set up for so provided there hasn’t been an event in before yours, we can be more flexible with set up times and also for food service.

Potential for better service

If you are hosting an intimate event (an event for a small group of people) then you may wish to choose a smaller venue that will be able to give you a more personal service on the day of your event. Naturally with bigger venues there is a larger risk of things going wrong as there is more to manage and of course you wouldn’t want this to disrupt the service you expect to receive at your event. With smaller venues, there is the potential for better service as everything is more manageable and contained.

If you’d like to find out more about hosting your event at The Jazz Cafe, please send us an email to info@thejazzcafe.co.uk.

Whether you’re organising a private or corporate event, there are a number of reasons why you might choose a more intimate venue for a smaller event and we explore three in this blog post.
